I had to quit an Appalacian Trail thru hike I'd been dreaming about for 38 years due to a flare up of an old shoulder problem. People said "If you are going to quit, quit on a sunny day." I quit on a sunny day after a shower wearing clean clothes after a good meal. None of it could overcome the pain that was just getting worse and I feared might become permanent or result in further injury. It was the good choice. I rode a 2 week bicycle tour as consolation.

Ryan i’m always impressed with your fortitude, but more so the ability to know when it’s time to quit and the things that bring you joy. I look forward to having a burrito with you one day and discussing your adventure here. It was a year ago and I dropped out of the 50 states summit Adventure as an athlete and went to Support, and made a ton of difference in my happiness.

It's never worth hurting yourself and there's no shame in stopping when you know it's the right thing to do. I had a similar experience last year, I was getting too caught up in FKTs and trying to ride all day long without stopping, I just had a huge realization that I was starting to approach bikepacking in a way that was stripping the joy from it, like you said, the stress of it being a "race" instead of just an adventure

your body and muscles were ready but not all your body was quite all ready. how do you even train your body to endure that uncomfort?? also I went on a road trip tour and it was get up and go every day and not what I come to appreciate. I totally feel your opinion in that regard. only 600 miles in?? oh yea you barely made it in Duzer. JK thats an amazing effort especially since how small time it interval it was.

Ryan, good try. I am with you. Bike touring is my speed. When I was much younger, I got all of that out of my system. Now, I just like to ride at my pace and enjoy the ride. Heal up my man.

That looks like such an amazing ride.Recently got back on my bike (88Schwin World Sport) After being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.Cycling is such an excellent exercise And I love it Especially if you could ride in such a beautiful location.Question Do you use GPS to navigate the trail I would be scared if I came to a fork in the road.Amazing video ..Hope to someday see you at Ragbrai.It's on my bucket list Along with the White Rim Trail

Damn, no butts about it, what a pain in the ass. Rarely (really?), though, I'm amazed this didn't get you in the past. Makes one aware of the where the seat of all their problems lie. But, I'm sure you won't backs(l)ide by this experience! Still, I can see you're sorely disappointed by this derriere dilemma, literally. Hey, Ryan, just trying to put a smile where it really belongs and not wanting to make you the butt of all my jokes (oops). Super drag but, heck, you got to know yourself better and, maybe, that's worth it. No more angst about bicycle racing, you know you're a great bicycle tourist and some racers never get to know that great part of cycling. You've experienced both and what you're really good at, you're REALLY good at, and know how to share it in wonderful ways. And, as usual, you'll be back better than ever!!!!

Just as a PSA: According to American Health Association journals, the mechanical properties of large arteries depend on blood pressure level and arterial wall structure, and magnesium deficiency most directly affects this.
